The Quest to Find Blueentity will have it’s birthday tomorrow! In celebration of this momentous occasion, please enjoy this adorable picture of Purple and Spam as the celebrate the comic’s birthday. This was so enjoyable to do, really. I saw the whole thing quite clearly in my mind and it was fun to not be limited by size. Sometimes squeezing characters into small comic panels can be hard, but there was no such limitations for this picture. The time hog for this one was the coloring! Yet another reason why this comic will remain in black and white. :) I started coloring this one around 2:15pm and did not finish until nearly 5pm. I know that if I really started doing this comic full time in color that the coloring would get faster, but right now I do have the luxury of spare time to practice getting faster with color.
During the month of May, I plan on having Spam do some changes to the web site in honor of our first anniversary. I can not believe that I have been doing this for a whole year! It’s mind boggling to me actually. I keep thinking of all of the pictures I have drawn, the characters I have created, the settings that drive me batty, and especially all of the support that so many people have shown us as we bumble our way through this venture.
QFB began a long time ago as a vague idea for a fun story. Purplefire had already been drawn, but then a story began to unfold in my mind that involved many of the posters at the Amaranthia website. Such a story had not been told on the site, a fictional tale that used the names of so many of the posters. Many users volunteered to have their name used in the story, such as Tarhia, Indigo, Exotica, Argoyle, Kleptin, Naram, Maren, Mythra, Quiet Wolf, and so many more! It made my character development for the story so much easier.
The story was posted on the Amaranthia website to rave reviews. When I even posted a couple of the images that I had in my mind that went with the story, Pinkentity and another good friend of mine jokingly (or was it jokingly, Pink? :)) told me, “So, when are you going to make this story into a web comic?” I laughed at them and said, “Not anytime soon.”
But the seed was planted…
The story was posted in November of 2005. I started doing QFB as a web comic in May of 2006. Yeah sure, not anytime soon. *rolling eyes*
So, sixty-seven comics and a year later, here is where we stand. What does the next year for QFB hold? I think I am in just much anticipation as everyone else! I am looking forward to pressing on with the story line, introducing new characters, and showing what type of magic Purplefire and Pinkentity can toss around.
Chapter 3 begins next Wednesday! W00t!
